Are you an up-and-coming employee seeking management skills and leadership training?

Are you a retired and want to find a rewarding way to volunteer in the community?

You would be a wonderful Loaned Executive!

The United Way of Rutherford County requests a Loaned Executive for a portion of time between September 15 – January 15. Ideally, the Loaned Executive can contribute for 6 – 8 weeks straight during this time period.

WHO ARE LOANED EXECUTIVES?

Loaned Executives are carefully selected individuals who are recognized as being “on the way up,” or perhaps they are already in management or veterans. They are loaned to United Way for a period of 10-12 weeks as a full-time special assignment, and temporarily relieved of (a portion of) their regular job responsibilities during this time. The right person would be a candidate for a Dale Carnegie course or similar training.

The individual selected for this program should be one in whom you have great personal confidence. We need a special person to do a special job. We need bright, energetic people with organizational experience and the ability to get a job done…successfully.

The job is extremely important to the United Way Campaign.

Testimonials

During the 2006 campaign I had the privilege of working as a Loaned Executive.   This gave me insight in to the magnitude of fundraising it takes to help strengthen our community.   With this experience, I developed relationships with others that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet otherwise.   I was able to work on many competencies that would help me later on in my job to include communication, organization, and public speaking.   It allowed me the opportunity to go beyond my comfort zone and grow as an individual both personally and professionally.   With all this knowledge and experience, I was able to utilize my skills to run one of the most successful campaigns my Company had run in many years.

-Shane Tate, 2006 Loaned Executive

My experience as a loaned executive to the United Way resulted in numerous benefits both personally and professionally.   The most obvious professional competency you will develop is communication.   It is hard for me to envision an opportunity that allows you to make more presentations to more groups in a six to eight week period than the loaned executive program.   I am not someone that was ever apprehensive about public speaking but I assure you that there was a significant difference in the quality of my first presentation and that of my last.    Relationship building is another key skill that is utilized.   The sheer number of people that you need to get in front of and the limited time you have to complete it necessitates relationships with the United Way's partnering agencies.   Time management is yet another benefit.   While you have goals and results you need to achieve, the manner in which you accomplish these is left to the loaned executive.   While these professional benefits are important, both to the individual and the employer who generously allows the loaned executive to participate in the program, they are not the only benefits for the loaned executive.   On a personal level, I was surprised at the sense of community that I developed.   This opportunity will open your eyes to the amazing number of people and organizations that play a vital role in the quality of life in your community, many of whom I know I took for granted.   The loaned executive program was as rewarding an experience as I   have been involved in and I would recommend it to any individual or employer.
